Joseph E. “Joe” Konrad, 72, of Jacksonville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, with his family by his side. He was born Nov. 27, 1942, in Jacksonville, the son of Edward Thomas and Lucille Dobson Konrad. He married Dottie Gilleland on Mar. 2, 1985, in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by his son, Chris Konrad of Jacksonville; two daughters, Kim (Larry) McComas of Mt. Vernon, TX, and Kara Pennell of Austin, TX; a stepdaughter, Chris (Mark) Ballenger of New Berlin; two stepsons, Jim (Robin) McGownd and Bill McGownd, both of Jacksonville; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Tom (Janet) Konrad of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Konrad.
Mr. Konrad was a 1961 graduate of Jacksonville High School. He worked for Midstate Distributors for many years, then for Illinois School for the Deaf, and retired from Apria Home Healthcare. He attended First Christian Church in Jacksonville and was a member of the Chapin Black Powder Gun Club. Joe was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed doing puzzles and spending time with his dogs. He loved attending events involving his children and grandchildren but especially loved spending time with his family.
