OBIT Reverend Father Joseph Dene, 85, of Cool View Lane, Bridgeport, WV, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. He was born in Baltimore, MD on November 27, 1924, a son of the late Frank and Josephine Olive Dene. Father Dene graduated from Logan High School, Logan, WV and attended St. Phillip Neri, Boston, MA. Father Dene studied for the priesthood at St. Charles College in Catonsville, MD., and St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, MD. He was ordained to the priesthood May 26, 1962 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Wheeling, WV by the late Most Reverend John J. Swint, D.D. Father Dene retired from full-time ministry in 1990. He served in West Virginia as associate pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Bluefield, from 1962-63; St. Patrick Church, Weston from 1963-64; pastor of St. Anthony Church, Fairmont 1964-75; St. Michael Church, Vienna 1975; St. Peter Church, Welch 1975-78; St. Zita Church and Missons, Masontown 1978-81; St. James Church, Clarksburg, 1981-90. Father Dene served on the Senate of Priests, and was Dean of the Clarksburg Deanery. He is survived by his brothers and sisters; Katherine Dene, Cincinnati, OH, Louis Dene and (Nancy), Abingdon, VA, Tony Dene and (Jane) Sterling, VA, Louise Kelly and (Donald), Cincinnati, OH; nine nieces and nephews, 16 great nieces and nephews, and dear friends, Tony and Frances Rosi, Fairmont, WV. He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Dene, Jr.
