Joseph Davant Rountree, 90, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida passed away on May 9, 2012. He was born March 2, 1922 in Savannah, Georgia. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S.A.F. for 36 years. He was a veteran of WWII and the Vietnam Conflict where he served multiple tours as a combat control team leader. Joe owned and operated Rountree Marine Construction for many years after his retirement. He enjoyed scuba diving, building and flying remote control airplanes, dancing, motorcycling, and writing.
Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Nu Rountree of Mary Esther, Fl, his sons, Joseph Rountree, Jr. (Lee Lindsay), Destin, Fl., George (Shannon) Rountree, Lake Stevens, Wa., and Mark Rountree, Destin, Fl., Robert (Mary) Rountree, Las Cruces, NM., and David (Andrea) Rountree, Savannah, Ga.; daughters, Carolyn (Chris) Kicey, Everett, Wa., Patricia Rountree (Tom Cheshire), Destin, Fl., and Lisa (Greg) Alex, Navarre, Fl.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his previous wife, Margaret Rountree, and his brother Calvin Rountree.
Joe lived a wonderful and full life and was a true member of the “Greatest Generation”. He will be dearly missed and his presence will always be felt.
