Joseph Anthony Davila Medina, Jr., 75, went to rest in the Lord February 12, 2022. Joe was born July 7th, 1946, to Joseph and Rose Medina, and lived in the Des Moines area his entire life.
Joe was a devoted family man. He adored and cherished his 4 children, nieces and nephews, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He graduated from Tech High School in 1965, earning certification in commercial printing. He embraced his career as a pressman for 40 years, retiring from Garner Printing in 2007.
Joe was a great cook, learning from his beloved parents and his mentor, Noah Lacona, and worked at Noah’s Ark restaurant for 10 years. He continued to cook, with love, for his family, passing along heirloom recipes.
Joe had a big heart, and was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He was famously known for his contagious and booming laugh, which could be heard and recognized in any crowded room.
In 1978 Joe accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, and was fully immersed into baptism. He spent many hours studying the Bible, earning the title of Outreach Minister. Joe lived his faith and shared the Word of God in churches, care centers, halfway houses, shelters, and prisons. He was proud to occupy the Clergy parking space at hospitals, where he visited the sick and prayed with grieving families in the ICU.
Joe was a constant encourager for his children and grandchildren. He never forgot a birthday or valentine’s day, bringing his wife and daughters flowers.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sandy Medina; their 4 children: Rose Mary (Jon) Raleigh, Andrea (Steve) Dingeman, Theresa (Jason) Brady, and Joseph (Margarita) Medina, III; 10 grandchildren: Eric, Jordan, Melissa, Nicole, Steven, Tiffany, Mariah, Ashten, Alena, Ryane; 27 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; his sister Maria (Gary) Tony, brother Nick Medina, and sister Debbie (Mike) Mann; his sisters-in-law: Lorraine (Jim) Myers, Carol Ruth, and Francis Skoog; his best friend, Henry Morawski, and many more relatives and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his father and infant daughter, Alisa Renee.
