Joseph Clay Sherwood, son of Cindy and Mitchell (Melinda), died on Sunday, May 7, 2017. He will be remembered by family and friends as a sweet and compassionate boy who never knew a stranger. Joe graduated from East Coweta High School in 2011, where he wrestled and played football and lacrosse.
As a sophomore, he won the deciding match to bring a Regional Title to the ECHS Wrestling Program. He was always up for an adventure, whether it was waking before dawn to go hunting or bringing buddies down to Lake Harding for a day of boating. Joe won the Noble Knight Award from Ellis G. Arnall Middle School, which recognized a student who had wholeheartedly assisted another in a noble and selfless way. This award speaks to his entire character. Joe only saw the good in the people he met and could always be counted on, in good times and bad. He never excluded anyone, but rather welcomed people into his life with open arms and loved with his whole heart and soul. Most of all, Joe will be remembered for his gregarious personality and his laugh, boy did he have a laugh. Loud and full of life.
He was loved by many and adored by all. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Virginia “Hun” Sherwood of Bristol, Virginia, and survived by his mother Cindy (Joe Aycock), his father Mitchell (Melinda), brothers Jack (Callie Ingram) and Sam Sherwood, stepsisters Janet Marie and Amanda Gunnels, grandparents David Sherwood and Bryan and Brenda Hulsey, uncles Charts and David (Lisa) Sherwood, Bryan “Trey” (Katrina) and Brent (Susie) Hulsey, and cousins Landon, Evan, Mac and Virginia “Jenna” Sherwood, and Justin, Caitlyn, Anna and Ciara Hulsey.
