Joseph A. Scurry, Jr. passed away in Jacksonville, FL on Saturday, January 15, 2022. He was passionately known to his family and friends as Jo-Jo and Joe! He was the third of eight children born to Daisy Marshall (stepfather, Rubin- deceased) and father, Joseph Andrew Scurry, Sr. (Sally Mae).
Joseph attended John E. Ford for Head Start and early elementary school, and George Washington Carver Elementary and Northwestern Middle schools. He graduated from Ribault Sr. High School in the class of 1979.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather; aunt and uncles; Pearlie (Pee-Wee) Reed, Eldridge (Ed) Owens, and Terrence Keith Jordan.
Joe is survived by his parents; four children and seven grandchildren, Tateisha Octavia Scurry (Zamareya Curry and Danarius McNorton), Joseph (Christina) Scurry, aka Lil-Joe (Jamya and Zianna Scurry), Ja Nae Scurry (Natalie and Nina Parrish and NaRissa Scurry) and Shantay S. Scurry; brothers, Andy James (Beverly) Scurry, Aldray (Cindy) Scurry, Rubin F. (Rolanda) Marshall, Jr. and George DeShawn Marshall; sisters, Essie (Don) Scurry, Vickie (Herman) Huntley and Gloreatha Dynie (Michael) Scurry-Smith; half siblings, Evelyn Whitmore, Kelvin and Reginald Scurry. Also to cherish is memory are aunts and uncles, Johnny (Pam) Owens, Evangline (Van) Watson, Francis (Jean) Wainwright, Kathleen (Clark) Justice; close cousins, Joe and Gen Jordan, Claudia Tremble, Sarah Reed and Bernard Reed; a host of nieces and nephews; close friends Clarence (Felicia) Hampshire; his God children, Courtney Alexis Hampshire, Clarence Hampshire, Jr. and Hope Jones; childhood and best lifelong friends, William Blackshear and Barrett McBride.
