Joseph A Matuella

On May 12th 2015 with his family at his side, Joseph “Joe” Matuella slipped from this life and gently entered into heaven.

The 3rd of 4 children, Joe was born to Charles and Mildred (Grazio). He graduated from Hazleton High School in 1956, working summers in his father’s business, “Matuella’s Dairy.” He graduated Ryder College (NJ) in 1960. Soon after college, he met the love of his life, Peggy, and married her the next year. Together they raised a family of three children. Joe worked in hotels for 24 years retiring as the VP of Sausman Hotel Group in 1985, then after another 24 years as the manager of the Boca Raton Mausoleum he retired once and for all without fanfare in 2013. The real story of Joe’s life was not defined by careers and titles, it was defined by the profound yet humble impact he had on others. First and foremost, he had a profound love for his wife, to whom he was utterly devoted. He lived his live if to only see her smile. He loved his children, selflessly, as well as his grandchildren, his parents, brother and sisters. He was a gentle soul who put the needs of his family in front of his own without regret. They all cherished him in return. He often extended himself to others without a second thought. Employees, customers and strangers regularly benefitted from receiving Joe’s kindness and willingness to help in a time of need. His actions were so genuinely humble, they could often be overlooked. And that is what he preferred. He will forever be missed and forever remembered.

Joe is survived by: His adoring wife of more than 53 years, Margaret “Peggy” Matuella. His children and spouses Annette Harmer & Don, Joe Matuella & Kara, Michelle Handin & Ben. His grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas, Alyssa, Hope, Joe-Joe, Luke, Mia, Autumn, Sawyer, Monique, Alex and Amanda. His sister and her family, Margaret Kelshaw & Del (Joe’s greatest friend and brother) and their children, James and Charles and Joe’s nephew, Tom Connely, as well as many more nieces and nephews. Joe is predeceased by his parents Charles J. & Mildred, his sister BettyJane and his brother Charles G.
