Joseph A. Vyverman, 90, residing in South Bend, formerly of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday evening, April 12, 2012, at Cardinal Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on March 17, 1922, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to the late Joseph and Amy (Pickard) Vyverman.

He married Margaret H. Wolf on Sept. 21, 1946, in Elkhart. She died on July 3, 2001.

Surviving are daughters Joanne (James) Phillips and Marianne Grouvdahl, both of Elkhart; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Vyverman, and a son, Eric Vyverman.

Joseph worked for Bendix Aerospace Division for 19 years, K & M Electric and as a courier for then-IOI Payroll after his retirement.

He was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in 1950, where he was an usher and member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus Council 1043 and was a former Elkhart Moose Lodge member.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.
