Joseph A. Buckreis, 82, of Elkhart, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born on October 5, 1938 in Altoona, PA to the late Fred M. and Elizabeth Moore (Young) Buckreis.
Joseph is survived by his sister, Sister Grace Buckreis of Wisconsin; lifelong friend, Liane Signorino of Elkhart; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred Buckreis, Ralph Buckreis, and Tom Buckreis; and sisters, Betty Jean “Sis” Antesberger, Ruth Ann Frederick, Martha “Mitzi” Dailey, Mary Hoover, and Nancy Myers.
Joseph was a kind man with a sense of humor who made friends with everyone he came in contact with, including all of his neighbors. He served proudly in the United States Marines and was a truck driver for Morgan Drive-a-way for several years before retiring. Though he was reserved at times, he was quick to offer help to all. He enjoyed taking care of his many cats and tending to his garden of elegant flowers. Joseph will be missed by his community, family, and many friends.
