Joseph A. Bishkoff 86, of South Main St. passed away April 24, 2020 at the Friendly Home. He was the husband of Cheryl (Priebe) Bishkoff. Born in Homestead, PA he was a son of the late Joseph and Julia (Varga) Bishkoff. Besides his wife he leaves four children, Joseph Andrew Bishkoff Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA, Sari Ilona Gian and Christienne Louise Miller both of Murphreesboro, TN and David Andrew Bishkoff of Providence, RI, four grandchildren, Colin Morgan Gian, Lauren Michelle Gian, Garrett Chandler Gian and Audrey Nicole Miller, and two great-grandchildren, Lincoln Zane Gian and Harper Marae Gian.
Joseph graduated from Munhall, PA High School in 1951. He joined the US Navy and served on the USS Philippine Sea. Joe graduated from the US Navy School of Music and was a Navy Bandsman from 1951-1955. He graduated from the Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University) with a Bachelor of Music and went on for a Master of Music. Joe was a professional violinist and violist performing with the Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet, Pittsburgh Civic Light Orchestra, the Wheeling, West Virginia Symphony and the Phillips String Quartet. He taught music for the Baldwin-Wallace School District, McKeesport High School and Fairmont State College in West Virginia. Joe was a member and past president of the Whitehall, PA Volunteer Fire Dept.. He was a member of St. Martins Church in Providence and served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister in the Diocese of NY and RI. Joe was also active in Koinonia and Kairos Prison Ministries.
