JOSE ECHEVESTE “DON PEPE” ZUNIGA, Deming resident passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 23, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Jose was the 7th of 10 children. He was born in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico on April 29, 1928 to Ninfa Echeveste Zuniga and Jose Zuniga. In May of 1953, he married Elvia Chavez in Las Cruces. In 1957 he moved his family to Los Angeles, CA where he worked at Rath Packing Company until his retirement in 1981. In Los Angeles, they were greatly involved with family and friends. In 1987 they moved to Deming where he opened various businesses and was well-known in the community.
He is survived by his wife, Elvia of the home; son, Cesar (Raquel) Zuniga of Deming; 2 daughters, Ninfa Shakeri (Mohamad) of San Jose, CA, Rosalva Zuniga of San Diego, CA;11 grandchildren, Antonio, Francisca, Octavio, Noel, Vanessa, Isaac, Amanda, Nicholas, Elias, Cyrus and Jacob, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Ninfa Zuniga, and 3 sons, Ricardo, Octavio, and Mauricio.
