Jose Ramon McFarlane, affectionately known as “Tito,” “Teetz,” “Uno Nuno,” “Crazy,” “Calvino,” “Panama,” “Flacco,” “Koufax,” and “Joe Mac” was born on March 3, 1950, in Colón, Panama. He grew up in the canal zone and graduated from Rainbow City High School in 1970. Jose was one of eleven children born to Arthur and Ettymay McFarlane. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2019, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
Jose migrated to the US from Panama, arriving in Brooklyn, NY, at the age of 21, dressed in a blue suede suit and the shoes to match! Shortly after his arrival, he enlisted in the US Army where he obtained his US citizenship while serving for our country.
Jose shared 41 years of his life with his wife, Josephine, whom he fondly referred to as “J-J-J-Josephine, the love of his life” and his “Lobster Mouth.” Together, Jose and Josephine created a beautiful family legacy that began with their three daughters Michelle, Amanda, and Ashley, and later expanded to include his sons-in-law Clive and Chad, daughter-in-law Luara, and grandchildren Destiny, Donte, and Carter.
Jose’s drive and entrepreneur spirit then led him to startup several businesses. First, Rainbow Landscaping and then Mac Fish and Chips, where you could buy a beeper and have a meal at the same time! In 1997, Jose moved to Melbourne, Florida, where he purchased his second home and found his true calling as a truck driver. Jose loved driving and was the proud owner of McFarlane Trucking, a successful dump truck business which he operated until the date of his retirement.
Jose was a very generous and selfless man, known for extending his home and wealth to others. He never hesitated to help a friend or family member during their time of need. He worked hard, often sacrificing his needs, and at times put his own life at risk to support his loved ones.
When he wasn’t working, Jose enjoyed engaging in sports. As a young man, he was an avid baseball player.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ettymay, brother Arthur Jr., and sister Ilene. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Carmen, Enaro, Hildarine, Arnulfo, Judith, Amelia, Sandra, Gilberto, and Arturo. He leaves behind, his wife, three daughters, three grandchildren, and more nieces and nephews than he could count! He was a loving husband, an endearing father, and a father-figure to so many. Jose will always be remembered for his humor and witty remarks such as “I’m from Rainbow,” “Raass,” and “Deuce Moose,” He touched so many lives during his time here on earth and meant so much to so many people. Jose will truly be missed.
