Jose Noe Diaz

July 25, 1946 – August 24, 2016

Santa Maria, TX –

Jose Noe Diaz, 70 from Santa Maria, Texas entered his eternal rest after a courageous battle with kidney disease on August 24, 2016.

He was born on July 25, 1946 in Santa Maria, Texas to Maximo Diaz, Sr. and Juanita T. Diaz. Noe was retired from NINOS, Head Start where he served in numerous capacities spanning over 20 years. He graduated from La Feria High School and later earned a Bachelorette of Science in Education from Pan American University. A life-long advocate for the less fortunate, he championed multiple causes throughout his life which he felt was everyone’s responsibility. He empathized with the plight of the migrant farmer workers, and fought diligently for early childhood development as well as access to healthcare. He was a pioneer for the local Head Start Program and Specifically NINOS Inc. Having been a Head Start Parent/Policy Council Chairperson & Volunteer himself, and then the first Board Chairperson for NINOS, Inc. Noe as we all knew him, was a true maverick when it came to advocating for the Head Start Program, its parents and staff.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Noe dedicated his spare time as a member of the Santa Maria School Board, for 20 plus years, the Military Highway Water Supply board, as well as the Cameron Appraisal District. He and his wife of 50 years, Gloria, owned ans operated a small convenience store (Diaz Groceries) for over 36 years. Dad was convinced that our happiness comes not from the work we do, but from how we feel about the work we do.

Noe was particularly proud of his family and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by his loved ones.

Noe is survived by his wife, Gloria Diaz; son, Jose Noe Diaz, Jr. (Sheila Secrest Diaz); daughter, Jeanette Villalobos (Lazaro Villalobos, Jr.); son, Cesar Rene Diaz (Beatrice Juarez Diaz); and daughter, Marissa Diaz; twelve grandchildren, Justin Andrew Diaz, Stephanie Illida Diaz, Lazaro Villalobos III, Karina Renae Diaz, Marina Delray Guzman, Samson Villalobos, Rebekah Cheyenne Cavazos, Jenna Marie Villalobos, Clarissa Diaz, Cesar Rene Diaz, Jr., Aaron James Diaz, and Chloe Noel Diaz. He is also survived by six wonderful loving siblings, Maximo Diaz, Jr., Armando Diaz, Roberto Diaz, Rolando Diaz, Rene Diaz, and Sylvia Diaz Campos.

We cannot express in words how appreciative we are for your constant prayers and well wishes. Tio Max, and Tio Rene thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time away from your families to take care of dad in his last few months of life. We know how much it lifted his spirit and for that we are grateful. Lil Noe.

We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at DaVita Valley Baptist Harlingen Dialysis as well as the staff at Solara Specialty Hospital Harlingen. A special thanks to Dr. Oladayo A. Sanusi, for his compassion and patience with our father during his care.
