Jose L. Arias, 67, passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on Friday, October 30, 2015 in League City, TX after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  Jose was born in Sagua La Grande, Cuba to Asnaldo Arias and Maria L. Alonso. He came to the United States at age 14 and he eventually settled with his family in New Orleans, LA where he met and married his wife of 48 years Betty L. Baralt. They eventually moved to Baton Rouge where he lived with his family for 30 years and retired as Assistant Mortgage Vice President at Whitney Bank. He was particularly known for his community volunteerism in Jefferson and East Baton Rouge Parishes through the Kiwanis Club for which he served in various leadership positions for years. He was recognized on multiple occasions for his work and of key importance was his involvement in the Jefferson Parish Bilingual Multicultural Program. Jose is survived by his wife Betty, his daughter Michelle Alonso (Ricardo), grandkids Ricky and Kathryn, sister Maria Arias, godson Alex Baralt (Michelle) and their children Alena, Niko and Luka, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Arnie Arias.
