José Inez Loera passed away on his 87th birthday, Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, after a brief illness. He was born April 20, 1927, in Jalisco, Mexico, and came to the United States in his late teens. José owned and managed farm and real estate properties in both Mexico and the USA. He also worked as an agricultural labor contractor in California, Minnesota, Texas, and Idaho, from the late 1940s through the late 1950s. As a widower with four daughters, José met and married Mary Piñeda Loera in 1964, and she helped José raise his beautiful family.
José was always dedicated to his family and held strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. José is survived by his wife, Mary; four daughters, Ruth Rueda, Maria Mouw, Carmen Ellis, and Guadalupe Loera Urrabazo; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Ruth has three children, Carmen (husband Steve and two children), Sandra (one child), and Marco (one child); Maria has four children, José (wife Antonia and two children), Miguel (one child), Monica (four children), and Adrian (wife Kristen and one child); Carmen (two children, Lorenna and Marquita); and Guadalupe (husband Anthony Urrabazo Martinez).
Earning his American citizenship was among José’s most prized achievements, however his greatest pride was reserved for his family and the foundation he was able to give them educationally and spiritually.
