José “Jody” Agapito Griego, 76, of Clovis, NM, passed away on May 7, 2022 in Clovis, NM.  

José Agapito Griego was born on December 31, 1945  in Clovis, NM to the parents of Salomon and Albina Griego.  He played football for the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds in Portales, NM in the 1960s where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He was so proud to be a Greyhound!  He went on to pursue his Master’s degree from the University of Texas Pan-American.  José dedicated over 20 years in the career field of education. He served many students in public education in the capacity as a Teacher, Coach, Diagnostician, Counselor, and Principal.  He found purpose serving students and helping them to achieve success in all that they did.  In his spare time, he enjoyed serving his local community and attending Greyhound games of all sports.  

  

Survivors of José include four children: Jason Griego of Arizona, Nikki Sanders of New Mexico, Pilar Griego Corona of Austin, TX, Omar Griego of Canyon, TX, and several grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Salomon and Albina Griego, brother Arthur Griego of Amarillo, TX, sisters Ramona Campbell of Clovis, NM and Rosella Moressey of Alamogordo, NM.
