Jose Fred Martinez,94, of Avondale passed away Oct. 24, 2022. He was born Dec. 8, 1927 to Luis Martinez and Rita (Phil) Montoya-Armijo, who proceded him in death along with his beloved wife Florida H. Martinez and son Fred V. Martinez; brothers Apollo “Polo” Martinez, Juan Martinez, Lawrence Martinez, Augustine Martinez and Andy Armijo; brothers-in-law Dan Pacheco, John Martinez Ben “Cale” Chavez, Phillip Salazar; sister-in-laws Jenny Martinez, Marjorie Armijo and Dolores Fernandez. Survived by his children, FloAnn Martinez, Kenneth Martinez, Kathy (Chris) Martinez, Tina Sandoval, Tammy (John) Smith; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandaughter; sisters, Mary Chavez, Angie (Julio) Chavez, Gloria Martinez, Julia (Jerry) Espinoza and brother, Joe Armijo. Fred served in the United States Army for three years, then married the love of his life “wife” Florida Martinez. He worked for the Pueblo Army Depot for 34 years and retired in 1982. He worked a couple of years for the Pueblo County Parks & Rec., then decided to completely retire. Fred loved his family most of all, but had many hobbies. He was an avid fisherman, a champion horseshoe player, loved camping, collecting rocks and coins, made jewelry, loved working with woodworks and playing pool. He loved dancing with his wife and daughters. He built his own house with his homemade tools and his wheelbarrel. Fred was very kind and generous to everyone who knew him, loved being around his family and friends, loved to have a beer and socialize with everyone. His family will miss him tremendous, but know he is reunited with our mother and brother.—Love your children.
