Jose F. America, a resident of Stoughton for over 50 years, passed away peacefully at home under the care of Old Colony Hospice with his loving family by his side on Tuesday October 31, 2017. He was 92 years old and the beloved husband of the late Luisa DeJesus (Mendonca) America who passed away in 2015. Survivors include his loving children, Ilda (America) Macedo and her husband Joao of Stoughton, Arlindo America and his wife Maria of Taunton, Angelina America of Stoughton, Genesia America of Stoughton, Dina O’Neil and her husband Timothy of Plymouth and the late Jose’ M. America. Jose’ is also survived by his sister Dr. Angelina Carvalho and was a brother to the late Maria do Ceu America, Matilde Cabral and Victorino F. America. Other survivors include his cherished 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Born May 25, 1925 in Flores, Azores, Portugal, Jose’ was a son born to the late Jose F. America Sr. and Maria D. (Chaves) America. Jose’s work ethic was second to none. He was employed as a Union Glacier worker for the Solar Seal Company in South Easton for over 30 years. He enjoyed gardening, watching his favorite soccer team BENFICA and was also an avid fan of the Boston Bruins.
