Jose “Borrado” Angel Cardenas, 62, of Galesburg, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, June 6, 2008.
He was born on January 27, 1946 in San Carlos, Mexico, the son of Francisco and Maria Luis Vasquez Cardenas. Surviving Jose are his mother, Maria of Acunia, Mexico; 4 children, Christina A. (Dave) Cardenas-Hayward, Alicia (Travis) Bush, Dustin (De-Prince) Cardenas all of Galesburg, and Virginia Cardenas of Topeka, KS; 4 brothers and sisters, Victor Cardenas of Acunia, Mexico, Maria Ines Alcorta of Houston, Texas, Angelita Cardenas of Acunia, Mexico, and Elena Hoffman of Houston, Texas. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Juanita Cardenas, Jeremy Likes, Dustin C. Cardenas, Mariella Marcello, Marisol Marcello, and Luciano Marcello; a great grandchild, Malachi Jose Matteo Cardenas; and his long time companion, Jane Lovett of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his father Francisco Cardenas and 2 grandchildren, Yolanda Villarreal and Joseph Younge. Borrado was born and raised in Mexico.
He came to the United States in 1969. He later became a U.S. citizen. He worked for Iowa Malleable from 1972 to 1992, he then worked for Briggs Mfg. from 1992-2002 and last worked for Heat and Control for 2 ½ years.
He enjoyed cooking and the occasional beer while spending time with his family and friends at his home. He was of the catholic faith and was a member of the local labor union. Borrado’s final wishes were to have his final hours at his home of 28 years and to “Go with the wind.” It was remarkably windy at the time of his passing. The family would like to give a special thank you to all of his friends who loved and supported him in life.
