Jose Anselmo Acosta, 86 died peacefully on Sunday June 19, 2005 in Flagstaff, AZ

Jose was born April 1, 1919 in Miami, AZ. He spent his early life in California, Mexico and eventually came home to Arizona.

He retired as supervisor from Santa Fe Railroad after 40 years and Staff Sergeant from the Army National Guard after 20 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he held the office of Chaplin for 23 years and received the honor of the All State Chaplain. He began the VFW’s Memorial at the Catholic Cemetery where he helped erect the gravesite for the Unknown Soldier. He was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and an active member of the Senior Center where he would greet his fellow members with a cheery good morning and on bended knee break into song.

He enjoyed countless hours camping, fishing, gardening, singing with the Mariachi band and sharing stories about his time in the South Pacific during WWII.

He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, family, friends, neighbors, fellow service men and the many people lives he touched from his love, generosity and the sound of his beautiful voice.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and a sister. He is survived by his beloved and adored wife, Amalia Acosta who he shared close to 50 years, 6 children, 9 step children, several grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, step great grandchildren and one step great great grandson, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
