Joe Albert Mendez passed away November 8, 2021 at the family home following a lengthy chronic illness. Joe attended Hobbs public schools and St. Helena’s Catholic School. He was a lifetime member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church serving as an altar boy, as well as participant in the annual selling of Christmas trees with his father for parish fundraising activities. He completed a prescribed program earning his High School General Equivalency Diploma through Cenekor Foundation. He was presented a Cenekor diploma by the United States of America’s First Lady, Nancy Reagan. He continued his education earning his Nursing Assistant certification from New Mexico Junior College. His work experience includes several various construction and oil field positions. Joe always found a friend wherever he went throughout his life. Uncle Joe will be remembered with a smile by his nieces and nephews who never experienced a dull moment. Joe leaves behind his devoted mother, Herlinda Rosales Mendez. He will be remembered as caring for his mother until his death.
Joe is survived by his brother, Samuel (Sheryl) Mendez, his sisters, Gloria (Anthony) Ostic, Sylvia Dickey, and former brother-in-law, Larry Dickey. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, Andrew, Victoria, Matthew, Paul Ostic; Kristen (Erik Scramlin), Kyle, Kellen Dickey; and Brandon Mendez; one grandniece, Abigail Ostic and one grandnephew, Caleb Mendez. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Bruno Mendez.
