Jorgi Rasmusen Thorne departed this life on August 29th at the age of 94 years. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Elizabeth and Timothy Ryan of Marshfield, MA and by her son Nicholas C. K. Thorne of West Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard. She is also survived by a nephew, Morten Buckhj and his family of Tikb, DK and Malcolm Drummond of Weehawken, NJ. Ms. Thorne was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on January 26th of 1924. As a young woman, she and her family took an active part in the resistance to the German occupation of Denmark. Following the war she moved to Tsing Tao in China, where she met and married her former husband, Nicholas G. W. Thorne of the U.S. Marine Corps. She lived in a number of different cities around the world, eventually settling in New York City, though she continued to travel around the world for her work as a buyer for the Lord and Taylor department stores. For the past twelve years she had lived an active retirement in Plymouth, MA where she made a wide array of friends whom she met through The Center for Active Living. At the Center she played bridge, practiced Tai Chi and was a member of the Golden Melodies chorus.
