Jonquil Roinestad, 74, was born January 27, 1943 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to
parents Theodore Arnold Roinestad and Phyllis Leola Roinestad. She was the third
child born to them; two boys, Soren and Goodwin, and then Jonquil.
Jonquil, or “Jonnie” to all who knew her, spent her early years in Eau Claire. The
family moved to the Colorado Springs area where their fourth child, Dwight, was
born. Jonnie continued in school there. Following carpenter work for Theodore the
family then moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, where a fifth child, Laurel, was
born. They purchased property in the Appleton area where her dad built a home
for the family. Jonnie attended schools in Grand Junction, Appleton, Pomona, and
Fruita.
The family moved to Silverton, Colorado, where Jonnie finished school, graduating
in 1961. Jonnie returned to Grand Junction where she worked for Hested’s Store,
Woolco, and Information Resources/Shopper’s Hotline, before retiring. She also
attended Mesa College during her working career.
Jonnie loved being at home, canning and embroidering, and making gifts for others.
She had her chickens, dogs, and cats. Jonnie cared for many cats with the help of
the Community Feral Cat Program. She also fed the birds that came to her yard.
Her neighbor’s peacock, “Blue,” came daily to eat and sleep in her tree. There were
raccoons and skunk, too! Jonnie gardened and read whenever she could.
Jonnie is survived by her brother Dwight Roinestad (Lucy) of Castle Rock, CO; her
sister Laurel Ogle (Don) of Farmington, NM; Pete Logan, her life’s companion; her
friend of 43 years, Sue Games, who was like family; five nieces, seven nephews,
great nieces and nephews, and many more.
Jonquil was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Soren Roinestad and
Goodwin Roinestad; half-brothers, George Roinestad and Leonard Roinestad; and
niece, Roxie Roinestad Johnson.
