Mr. Jonie Price Pennell, 85, of Troutman, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at his home.
He was born June 17, 1930 in Alexander County to the late Burgess Lee and Fannie Walker Pennell.
He was married for 62 years to his loving wife, Claudia Mae Pennell, who passed away on March 30, 2016.
Mr. Pennell was a retired Master carpenter who worked for several local contractors before starting his own business. He enjoyed both hunting and fishing and loved working in his garden, especially his tomato garden. He was a long time member of the Duck Creek Gun Club.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Sherry) Pennell; four daughters, Betty (Mike) Wagner, Ramona Pennell (and partner Gail Drake), Marsha Tomlin and Tracy Rimer; grandchildren, Will Pennell, Mark (Nicki) Pennell, Chad and Chris Wagner, Dana (Jimmy Heckman) Draughn, Katie Cook and Heather and Drew Bumgarner; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Ally and Ella Heckman, Gianna Wagner, Mason and Logan Pennell, Carter Cook and Jaelan, Tyler, and Keylan Mills; brothers, Rayford and Don Pennell; and sisters, Lucille Hedrick, Loretta (Elliott) Brann and Nell Dean Goodman.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Darrell Wagner; brothers, William, Thurston, Miller, Wayne, Fred and Glenn Pennell; and sisters, Marie Kolenette, Alma Adams and Mary Lee Hurlbert.
