Mr. McNeil peacefully passed away at his residence. He is the fiancAC. of Catheia Brown and brother of Carolyn McNeil, Joyce Rucker, Jacquelyn Ransom and Sherman McNeil.
His Wake (and Viewing) will be Friday, December 19, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in “Memory Chapel” at the Mortuary.
JONATHAN KENT MCNEIL, affectionately known as “Johnny”, was born on January 9, 1963, in San Diego, California to Sherman McNeil, Sr. and Thelma Adams McNeil. He received his formal education through the San Diego Unified School District, graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School, where he played baseball and was noted for his excellence in the sport. Johnny was employed with Koam Engineering Systems for twelve years as a Logistics Coordinator.
Johnny was known for his love of family and always organizing family dinners. He had a passion for fishing and enjoyed having fish fry’s to celebrate his catch.
For the past few years, Johnny battled illness while keeping a smile on his face. When asked how was he doing, he would often say he was doing just fine just to keep people from worrying about him.
In September 2013, Johnny met and fell in love with Catheia Brown and in September 2014, they became engaged. Their wedding was planned for September 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Gwendolyn and his maternal and paternal grandparents. On Friday morning, December 12, 2014, Jonathan Kent “Johnny” McNeil slipped away peacefully with his fiancAC.e, Catheia Brown by his side.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Gary and Shawn Woodson; his fiancAC.e, Catheia Brown; six siblings, Eula Taylor of Charlotte, NC, Carolyn McNeil, Sherman McNeil, Jr., Joycelyn Rucker, James McNeil and Jacquelyn Ransom; cousin and honorary borther, Samuel Adams; four grandchildren, Monique, Izaiah, Gianna and Gelean; nieces and nephews, John, Krista, Michael, Kevin, Jermaine, Jasmin, Teisha, Shaakirah, Khallid, Precious, Fatimaah and Zoe all of San Diego, CA and a host of cousins and other relatives.
