Paddy, as he is known to family and friends in Canada, and Patrick, as he is known to friends in Denver, was born in Ottawa on the Ides of March in the year of our Lord 1938. His father was Harry Aloysius Coulson of Ottawa, Canada. His mother was Dorothy Estelle Holland of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Harry had a string of race horses when he and “Dede” were married, but the family business was in hospitality, hotels and restaurants in various areas of Ontario and Quebec with the family seat being in Ottawa. Paddy attended high school in Ottawa and college at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, then finished his college days at Carleton University in Ottawa. He first worked professionally as a public relations officer in Ottawa with the Canadian Construction Association, then moved after several years to run the family hotels, Coulson Hotels, and the restaurant business for the family. When the decision was made to sell the assets of the family business, he moved into the real estate sales and marketing business with his friend Ned Rhodes in the Rhodes family’s very successful independent real estate business in Ottawa. He stayed the real estate business for the rest of his business career, holding managerial positions in Ottawa and Vancouver, Canada where he lived for 14 years (1976 to 1998), and in Denver, where he had his own companies for many years until the present. He was a sailor, horseman, golfer, water skier, snow skier, tennis player and hiker. He was a long time member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Ottawa, and a member of the Kissing Camels Golf Club, part of the Garden Of The Gods Club, in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a strong supporter of the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Botanic Gardens, and the Denver Dumb Friends League.
