Jon Michael “Mike” McCann, 81, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away September 18th, 2019, surrounded by his loving family, after a prolonged illness.

Mike was born the 2nd of 4 children on June 12, 1938 in Decatur, Indiana to Eugene “Gene” Vincent and Alice Joan (McNulty) McCann. Gene was in the grain management business. Mike was preceded in birth by his sister Pat, followed by his brother Tom and his brother Terry.

After stints in Madison, Indiana and Springfield, Illinois, Mike moved with his family to Denver, Colorado the last day of 1950. Mike entered Christ the King Catholic school as a 7th grader, graduating from there a year later in the first graduating class at Christ the King. He then entered Regis High School, where he played football, baseball and basketball. Mike excelled in basketball, playing all four years and lettering twice, with his senior team winning the parochial league championship. He graduated in 1956.

Mike then attended the University of Loyola-Chicago in Illinois for one year on a basketball scholarship. He transferred to the University of Colorado, where he spent the next several years attending class part-time and working at Gates Rubber company, helping to support the family. Mike completed his education in 1963.

Mike met the love of his life, Sandra Ann “Sandy” Bushart of Liberal, KS on St. Patrick’s Day in Denver, where Sandy attended college at Loretto Heights. After a short courtship, they were married on August 8th, 1964. Mike curtailed graduate school to start a family and began a career with Hallmark Cards as an account executive. After a move to Great Falls, MT, his firstborn, Sean Michael was born on May 30, 1965. After a move back to Colorado, daughter Mary Michele was born on December 31, 1967. Mike then took a promotion to Assistant District Manager in Omaha, Nebraska in 1971, followed by another promotion and move with the company to Naperville, IL in 1973, where he was in charge of Hallmark’s largest national account.

In 1977, Mike took a lateral move with the company to get back to Colorado, where he served out his career with Hallmark, leaving the company in 1986 to open up J. Michael’s Hallmark in the Tabor Center on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver. Mike closed the store ten years later and began a career as a Real Estate Broker with Metro Brokers. He fully retired from real estate in 2013. His senior years were filled with bible study, grandkids,friends, traveling and lots of laughs and special times with Sandy. He passed away peacefully after a short stay in an assisted care facility and Porter Hospice.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra McCann; children, Sean McCann and Michele Olson (Keith), grandchildren, Liam, Carrick and Meagan McCann, and Hayley Bueno (Steven), Hunter and Connor Olson, and great-granddaughter Elliana Bueno. Also surviving are sister Patricia O’Donoghue, brother Thomas McCann (Connie), brother Terrence (Val), brother-in-law Lowell Bushart (Linda), sister-in-law Yvonne Nipple (Stan) and sister-in-law Marita Kovalik (Kreg), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by father Gene, mother Alice, father-in law L.M Bushart and mother-in-law Helen Bushart, as well as brother-in-law Bill O’Donahue.
