Jon “Kris” Kristian Robbins (Jon Blackwell, better known as Govanen) of Sandia Park, NM passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 2:14 a.m. Starting life at just 4 pounds, 14 ounces, his goal immediately became to be a giant and when you look back over his life he achieved that goal tenfold. He touched so many in such a short time but he will be with so many always. Kris took his love of history and joined the SCA starting out in Drygstan suiting up in armor, hitting his friends with swords, and living in a tipi. Soon the passion of rapier combat drew him to the light side allowing him to reach the height of his fencing skills by becoming a White Scarf. He did not stop there. He took on cadets to pass on his knowledge and many of those have become White Scarves themselves. Kris’s talents expanded with being a gun enthusiast, not only enjoying shooting but teaching others and repairing guns. He was a gentle giant, man of honor, and a loving soul who always had time for friends of the two and four-legged variety. Kris worked for Animal Clinic in Santa Fe as a personal assistant to Phil Hinko for over 25 years. He graduated high in his class from the University of New Mexico with bachelor’s degrees in archeology and history. Kris is survived by his mother, Karen Hartshorn, of Ocate, NM; M.J. Hinko of Sandia Park, NM; Reta Bray of Albuquerque; and many more all over the world.
