Jon Edwin Jensen, age 79, passed away on February 20, 2022 at Greenridge Place Memory Care Center in Westminster, Colorado. His passing was from the natural causes of Alzheimer’s.

 

Jon was born March 11, 1942 in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School and Weber College. He then served an LDS church mission to Denmark. Upon returning from his mission, he graduated from Utah State University with a Master’s degree in Education. He taught English, History and Psychology at Bonneville High School for 27 years. Jon absolutely loved teaching! He was an Assistant Principal at Rocky Mountain Junior High School, Weber High School, North Ogden Junior High School and Principal at Lakeview Elementary. He retired from education in 2001.

 

Jon married Ann Zaugg in 1989 in Kauai, Hawaii and in 1990 they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jon and Ann lived in Ogden, Utah until Jon retired in 2001. They moved to Soldotna, Alaska where they lived for 17 wonderful years. They moved to Westminster, Colorado in 2018 to be closer to their daughter and her family.

 

Jon loved the church and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jon and Ann served an LDS church service mission on Salt Lake Temple Square. They also served an Anchorage, Alaska mission. They later served in the Anchorage, Alaska LDS Temple as ordinance workers. Jon also served as first counselor in the Sterling, Alaska Ward Bishopric.

 

Jon had many talents and hobbies; builder, carpenter, wood-working and stained glass. He was a collector and private dealer of military memorabilia, guns, antiques, and Japanese Samurai swords. Jon could speak Danish, German, Russian and old Japanese and was an avid speed reader. He loved to ski and had previously been a ski instructor and a ski patrol member at Snow Basin ski resort in Huntsville, Utah. Jon loved to fish, especially fly-fishing, and enjoyed tying his own flies. He also spent many days at the shooting range, followed by reloading his ammo.

 

Jon enjoyed poetry and music especially classical, opera, oldies and old western.

 

Jon was intelligent, hardworking, loving, enjoyed helping others, also patient, kind, and a good friend.

 

Jon is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Ann Jensen; his sons, Erik Jon, and Scott Todd Jensen; stepdaughter Senta (Peck) Keefe (Paul); step-grandchildren Mason & Karlie Keefe and sister Pat Lambert (John). He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Joseph & Evelyn (Harwood) Jensen and a sister Debra Lee Jensen. Jon loved his family very much. He will be greatly missed by many family and friends.
