Johny was born on March 5, 1951 in Cottonwood, ID to father Robert Jean Mercer and mother Esther Lorraine Mercer. He grew up in a loving family with 2 sisters and 3 brothers. He graduated from Big Bend Community College with an Associate’s degree and from California State University – Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Mathematics.
Johny was a devoted father and raised his three children with his former wife, Ana. He enjoyed seeing his children go through college and start families of their own. After personally building a house, he remained happily settled in Boise, ID with his second wife, Suzanne. The nicest and friendliest guy you’d ever meet, he was liked by everyone.
Johny was a brilliant computer programmer with a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping but most of all fly fishing, in various parts of Idaho. He also loved working with his hands. He was a handyman around the house and an excellent car mechanic.
Johny was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2014. During his fight with his illness, he remained a dedicated father, grandfather, husband, friend, and employee.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at MSTI, St. Luke’s Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Center, Legacy Hospice and Valley Medical for their excellent work and loving care. The family would also like to thank his compassionate coworkers, those that have offered prayers, kind words, thoughtful gifts and their time in Johny’s behalf.
