Johnny Wallace Swoope entered life in Hillsboro, AL on July 21, 1940, to the late Johnnie and Hettie Jane Fendrix Robinson Swoope. He departed this life on September 30, 2016 in Decatur, AL.

He accepted Christ at an early age. Wallace finished his high school education at Tennessee Valley High School where he graduated in May 1959.

Johnny was employed by Champion Paper Mill (International Paper) for many years where he retired after many years of service.

Mr. Swoope loved softball and was a lover of music, and many years he was a member of the gospel quartet The Spiritual Harmoneers.  He also managed a gospel group of young people called The Spiritual Creations.  For several years he hosted a weekly radio ministry on WAJF in Decatur, AL. He was beloved by all of his family. He was known for his infectious laugh and positive attitude even during his sickness.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine Robinson Swoope a brother, Earnest Swoope; a sister, Ella Eva Key; and one daughter, Sandra Harris.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Jacqueline Watkins, Gerald Swoope, Ronald Swoope, Dorothy Diane Swoope, Ryan Swoope, Valerie Thompson, all of Decatur; two brothers, James Turnbore, Harold (Pat) Swoope of Detroit, MI; one sister, Frances Owens of Hillsboro, AL; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a special niece, Denise Swoope, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
