Johnny Richardson, 62, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018, at the Hospice of Hope Care Center at Kenton Pointe, Maysville, Kentucky, after a battle with cancer. His wife of 29 years, Debbie (Keeton) Richardson, was by his side and wants to thank the hospice team for everything they did to ease his final days.
Johnny was born on October 3, 1955, in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Charles “Sonny” and Vergie (Rowe) Richardson.
He served his country with distinction for seven years in the United States Marine Corps, where he reached the rank of Sergeant. He also served in Vietnam.
After his military service, he worked for over 25 years as an electrical field service technician, traveling extensively to diagnose, repair, and redesign electrical control systems in a wide variety of manufacturing facilities in the US and beyond.
Johnny loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, going for long walks with his dogs, or tending to his vegetable garden. He enjoyed reading, especially westerns and science fiction and he never saw a John Wayne movie he didn’t like. He and Debbie loved their DIY projects and Johnny always wanted to see if he could fix what was broken or re-engineer the things around him to make them better. He loved animals and took in many strays over the years even though he pretended to grumble about it.
In addition to his wife, Johnny is survived by three brothers, Harley Richardson, Roy (Vickie) Richardson, and Sam (Margie) Richardson, all of Somerset, KY; two sisters, Mary Lou (Gary) Hoffman of South Carolina and Debbie (Art) Warrant of Florida; a multitude of nieces and nephews, many of whom have said over the years that he was their favorite uncle; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dan Rowe and Harvey Richardson; one sister, Margaret (Rowe) Scott; and his favorite aunt and “second mom”, Jean (Richardson) Burton.
