Johnny Lawrence Harper, Sr., 81
Okeechobee – Johnny Lawrence Harper, Sr., went to be with his Lord on April 5, 2021. He was born on April 20, 1939, in Charleston, West Virginia to Delford and Geraldine Harper.
Johnny proudly served his country in the US Navy for four years and the Reserves for two years. He worked as a welder/pipefitter and was a member of the Local Pipe Fitters Union 630 in West Palm Beach for 55 years. As a pilot, he enjoyed flying airplanes and his model planes. He liked to travel and see the country. He really loved all his animals. His loves included tinkering in his shop and making things safer for more practical use and making his “canned ham” musical instruments. He was a member of Oakview Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Nancy Harding and Betty Mesquin; and his granddaughter, Joanne Chandler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Bertice Norman Harper; son, Johnny L. Harper, Jr. (Cindy) of Tampa; daughters, Tammy Mitchell (Stanley) of Plant City, Louise Chandler (Noel), and Susan Flint, both of Okeechobee; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and family.
