Johnny J. Lester, age 80, of Newnan, died December 5, 2016 at Atlanta Medical Center. He was born in Carroll County Georgia and was the last of eight children born to the late Ezra and Etta Lanier Lester. Johnny was a familiar face in the local Winn-Dixie store for 30 years. He was the go to guy for that special cut of meat in the butcher shop. Following his retirement from Winn Dixie, he worked at the Publix Grocery on Bullsboro Drive where his beaming smile and willingness to lend a helping hand made him a favorite with shoppers. Many people lead complicated lives, but not Johnny. He was a simple man who loved his family, a good game of pool, zipping around on an ATV and his version of gardening, no matter how small the plot he planted. It was still a garden. He grounded his faith in the Baptist church and was associated with Hogansville Lodge #93 F&AM. Johnny is survived by his wife Betty Jean Adair Lester and his daughter Vicki Lester-Smith and her husband Gary. There is a large family of nieces and nephews. Those who wish to honor Johnny’s life may do so by a kind deed to someone who might not expect it. He would certainly do the same.
