Johnny Earl Hampton was born on December 27, 1951.  He grew up in Lavaca, Alabama and lived his life to the fullest.  Johnny made many friends with his contagious smile, fierce spirit, and outspoken personality.

Johnny attended East Choctaw High School and graduated from Alabama A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture. While attending A&M, he became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Gamma Epsilon Chapter. Johnny was employed at Georgia Pacific for almost thirty years until his retirement in December of 2016. He was a dedicated employee and loved his Georgia Pacific coworkers, whom he also considered family. He was a very dedicated member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church, where he served as President of the Board of Trustees. He sought joy in the Lord and ensured those around him always had a good word of two.

Johnny was a very humble man, always putting others before him. He had great manners and treated everyone with kindness. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching the game whenever he could. His favorite pastime was eating. He was happiest when he was eating and spending time with loved ones. God chose him to home on Thursday, August 23, 2018.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Johnathan Hampton and Tammy Sampson; brothers, Wade Hampton and Maurice (Normie) Hampton; grandchildren, Tyler Hampton, Jeremy Hampton, Joshua Hampton and Elyse Sampson; special friend Gwendolyn Diane Brown. He also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends whom he loved dearly. He is preceded by his father Benjamin Hampton; mother Laura Hampton; sister Pearlie Hampton; brother Johnny B (Yvonne) Hampton and grandson Eldric Sampson.
