Johnny B. Berry, a resident of the Walker Springs community, departed this life peaceful at his home on Aug. 7, 2020. Born to the union of Willie Berry and Ida Rivers Berry on July 8, 1934, he was 86 years of age. Johnny was a faithful member of The Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, where he served diligently as chairman of the Board of Deacons until his health failed. Johnny retired at more than 40 years of service with G&H Ready Mix. Upon retiring, he devoted his time taking care of his loving and devoted wife until her demise and farming until failing health.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 61 years, Margleen Daffin Berry; siblings, Sadie Mae Thomas, Anderson “Sam” Berry, Frank Berry and Jeremiah Berry.
Deacon Berry leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted family; three sons, Johnny (Marilyn) Berry and Willie (Helen) Berry, both of Walker Springs, and Reginald (Ida) Berry of Jackson; two daughters, Dorena (Gary) Philon of Jackson and Hazel (Ed) McClain of Birmingham; one brother, Earl (Maxine) Berry Sr. of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Lula Brown and Lillie (Paul) Coates, both of Jackson, and Lucretia Berry of Mobile; one sister-in-law, Bettye Moore of Walker Springs; devoted grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, four devoted, Mary Ann Pritchett, Dessie Lewis, Fannie Foxx and Rufus Scott Sr.; three devoted friends, O.J. Bryant his personal barber, Theodore Pritchett and Robert James Pritchett; and devoted caregiver, Clarencine James; with other relatives and friends.
