Johnnie Ruth Uptain McClain passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Continuing Care Hospital in Temple, Texas. She was born on October 6, 1944 at Sewell Hospital in Belton, Texas to Wheeler “Jimmy” and Mattie Uptain, and was an only child. Johnnie grew up in Belton, Texas and was a proud Marching 100 member as a clarinetist. She soon met her high school sweetheart, and best friend for life, John Ty McClain.

They were married on January 5, 1962 and raised two wonderful children. Johnnie lived and worked in Houston, Texas with her family for several years. Before retiring in 1998, Johnnie worked as a Foley’s cosmetics department supervisor, was a dedicated teacher’s aide at Olle Middle School (where she became quite known for driving her beloved’s 1953 Dodge truck for the annual “50s Week”) and then went on to work for Litton Mortgage Company managing loan services.

After retiring, she and her husband, John, moved back to Temple, Texas to be closer to family and proudly watch their grandchildren grow up. Johnnie will be remembered for her attention to detail, admiration for traditional British culture, passion for interior decorating (especially at Christmastime), home cooked meals, and most importantly, her love and devotion to her family.

Johnnie is preceded in death by her husband, John Ty McClain. She has left behind her daughter, Debbie Knight and husband Joe Knight, and son Todd McClain and wife Sharon McClain; her grandchildren, Brandon and Sarah Knight, Brandi and Kevin Floyd, Bradley Knight, and Wyatt McClain; her great grandchildren Rubie Knight, Karli Floyd, and John Luke Floyd; also sister-in-law, Cindy Matl and husband Jerry Matl.
