Johnnie Marie Griffin went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2022, at CHI Health Immanuel hospital. She departed this life peacefully surrounded by friends and family. She accepted Christ at an early age.
She was born November 19, 1933, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. At the age of 17 she met and married Bobby Frank Griffin. They later moved to Akron, Ohio, then Chicago, Illinois where they started a family. Bobby Sr and Johnnie relocated to Gary, Indiana where Johnnie served as a devoted member of Zion Progressive Church. Johnnie was a registered nurse with a catering business on the side. She then went on to retire to put her focus on family and found her most recent home in Omaha, Nebraska.
Although she was so tiny, she gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. She could spend hours watching game shows in her favorite chair while cuddling close to those she loved so much. She enjoyed music and reading her Bible.
She is preceded in death by her parents Laura and John N. Johnson, sister Liller Hall, brother, Joe Willie Johnson, Her son Leroy Griffin, and her daughter Veronica Griffin-White.
Johnnie leaves to cherish her loving memories of her beloved sons; Bobby F. Griffin Jr., Michael Griffin, Edmond (Charnell) Griffin; daughter, Sheena Pena; grandchildren Christofer C. Griffin, Jacqui S. Griffin, Jasmin M. Griffin, Joi’Lesha R. White, Justin M. Griffin, Alexander B. Walker-Griffin, and Alia G. Walker-Griffin; great-grandchildren Christina Griffin, Armona Taylor, DeNia Davis, and Shylah Davis; brothers Marvin (Paulette) Johnson, John (Annie) Henry, and Melvin (Gail) Johnson; special daughter-in-law Avis Walker-Griffin; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
“Mamma Gee” was well-loved by all who knew her. She was a very giving spirit and was never without a word of wisdom. She truly will be missed.
