Johnnie Frank Porter was born April 30, 1924, to the late Mr. Otis and Mrs. Viola Porter in Westpoint, Mississippi. He completed his education and grew to young manhood. 

On February 22, 1947, Mr. Porter married Dora Etta Thompson. Their union was blessed with fourteen children, and one before marriage. 

John professed a belief in Christ at an early age.

Mr. Porter was a provider for his family, and he was a listening ear to all who needed him.  Those who knew him best would call him a “Brightwood Legend.”  Mr. Porter enjoyed a host of activities including. but not limited to, fishing, cleaning fish, playing cards with friends, sitting in his car listening to blues, sitting on the porch, taking walks, and his most memorable, having a neighborhood candy store, and working on lawnmowers. 

Mr. Porter was cherished by all who knew him as he never met a stranger.  Mr. Johnnie Frank Porter departed this life on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the age of 98 years.  Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Etta Porter; children, Johnny Powell, Willie Frank Porter, Tommy, Jr., Bobbie Jean Summers, and Roosevelt Porter.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Linda Sturdivant, Gwendolwn Butler, Tammy Porter, Angela M., Doris M., Loretta L. Porter; sons, Darnell, Gilbert C. (Mamie), Johnnie Jr. (Geraldine), Michael A. Porter; a host of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

 

Although we will miss him on earth,

We are glad he is no longer suffering,

and in the hands of the Lord.
