Johnnie Carl Pierce Sr, of Toney, AL, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Glenda Ann Worley Pierce, his parents, William Wesley Pierce and Ida Edith Sneed Pierce, his father and mother in-law, Henry James Worley and Gladys Bama Turner Worley, his daughter, Ginger Gayle Pierce, and 11 Brothers and Sisters. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Cheryl Pierce of Toney, AL, his daughter and son-in-law, Terrie and John Shull, of Huntsville, AL, one sister, Linda McBride of Franklin, TN, and one fur baby, Little Duke.
Born in rural Madison County, Carl (the name by which he was known) was raised on a farm. In those early years, the farm life he lived taught him values that he would use throughout his life. Those values would include a strong work ethic, taking care of others, providing for family, and how to have good, clean fun. After leaving the farm, he joined the Huntsville Utilities as a lineman for two years before leaving to join the U.S. Army.
He was proud of his service in the Army in which he was enlisted from October 1958 to September 1961. His basic training took place at Fort Benning, Georgia when General Patton was in charge of the installation there. He served overseas in Germany during peacetime and when his service time was completed, he processed out at Ft. Belvoir, VA. One of the proudest memories of his Army years was serving in the Honor Guard at the inauguration of John F. Kennedy.
After leaving service, he returned to work as a lineman for the Huntsville Utilities for 30 more years where he worked until retirement in October of 1991. He was a devoted member of Toney Holiness Church and loved and was loved by all his family there. He loved fishing and working outside and was active until his passing.
