Johnetta Yvonne Williams-Jenkins was the nineth child born to Wallace Williams and Una Cosey on November 12, 1936, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She grew up with her five brothers, Rudolph, Darnell, Guy, Delbert, and Reginald and sisters, Patricia and Alfreda. As a child, Johnetta was musically inclined. She played the trumpet, piano, and was a member of the marching band. She received her early education by attending the Oklahoma Public School System, She attended Douglass High School in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Johnetta was blessed to have nine children. Warren, Kevin, Michael, Cheryl, Gerald, Euna, Darcel, Denise, and Desiree. They were Johnetta’s pride and joy. She was a caring and nurturing mother, she loved deep, and loved each of her children in the way they needed to be loved. Later she was blessed with seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. They affectionately called her “Grandma Jenkins” and “GG”. Elijah remembers climbing the stairs and playing peek-a-boo with GG and trying his hardest to scare her.
By profession, Johnetta was a Cook for the Denver Public Schools. She was amazing with the children, she encountered sharing stories of WWI and the Wrestleg, She was a joy to work with.
In her spare time, Johnetta enjoyed talking and spending time with her good friend, Joann Bockleman. They would play cards and watch football together and you could always count on Johnetta to “tell it like it was”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wallace Williams and Una Cosey; children, Warren Keith Gay, Denise Lee, and Desiree Lee.
Johnetta Yvonne Williams-Jenkins departed her earthly body into the arms of her heavenly Father on May 5, 2022, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy include her children, Kevin Wayne Wilson, Michael Lewis Jenkins, Cheryl L. Lee, Gerald Ray Jenkins, Euna Diane Lee, and Darcel Williams Lee; grandchildren, Desiree Ray, LaToya Lee, Jessica Wilson, Joshua Wilson, Jamsine Wilson, Tasha Morray, and Andrew Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Ja’Vevon-Julice “JJ” Lee, Kencheze “K-Ray” Ray, Jr., Heaven Wilson, Carter Douglas Parker, Crystal Chanel Ray, Elijah McDaniels, Jayceson Williams, Nyielah Wilson, Warren Keith Lee, and EajZhane “Nana” Lee; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.
