John William Flake, 91, passed away Monday November 3, 2014 in Nashville. He was a resident of Franklin.John was born Feb. 23, 1923 in Bloomfield to the late John B. and Daisy (Groomer) Flake. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II, where he received two purple hearts and a silver star.

He married Sandra Scott in 1974 in Florida, they were married for 40 years.John was employed at Crane Ammunition Depot as a supervisor for several years; retiring in 1978. He was a member of the American Legion Post 502 in Franklin and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Greenwood Post 5864.

He enjoyed reading, following sports, NASCAR, playing cards and loved to dance. He attended Glenns Valley United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Flake of Franklin, a daughter, Lana K. Flake of Bloomfield and a grandchild, Taylor Reid Flake of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Toby Flake, two brothers, Rector and Royce Flake and three sisters, Amy Feutz, Mabel Terrell and Rosemary Browning.
