John William Duckworth, 97, of Roosevelt Road, Clarksburg, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at his residence. He was born July 26, 1913 in McDowell County the son of the late J. J. Duckworth and Chloe (Moats) Duckworth. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Virginia Funk Duckworth. He is survived by two brothers; Joseph “Joe” Duckworth and wife and David Duckworth both of Philippi. He is also survived by his friends and caregivers Carla Thornhill and husband John of Clarksburg. He was preceded in death by five sisters; Abigale Stemple, Lena Duckworth, Rose Duckworth and Margaret Duckworth and Bridgette Duckworth. John was a member of the Mason Lodge #52 of Bigalow, the IOOF of Philippi, Senior Citizens in Philippi and the American Legion. He was a US Army Veteran having served during WWII and then went on to work as a coal miner. Per his request, he will be encrypted at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens next to his wife.
