John Wesley Hodges, Jr., age 80, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at his home in Moreland GA, surrounded by family. He was born August 19, 1934 in Metter, GA to the late John Wesley Hodges, Sr. and Gertrude Whipple Hodges. John grew up on Hodges farm in Metter Ga. He was called possum by friends and family. Along with his father and brother John drove a school bus for the African American children. During his early years he was a member of Primitive Baptist church. He moved out to California for a few years and then moved back to Georgia in 1991. He was a self employed landscaper for several years. After that he worked for Public Works for 8 and a half years. He was also a custodian for the Church of Christ and was a faithful member of Newnan Church of Christ. He was a very loving and caring Honey and Pop to his grandchildren. He was very special to everyone he met and everyone he met loved and cared about him. Our loving John Hodges has now gone fishing and is home with his Jesus. Along with his parents John is preceded in death by his aunt, Dell Mae Hodges Johnson, brother, Cother Lee Hodges, sister, Juanita Hodges Lane, brother-in-law, Theodis Lane, daughter, Susie Hodges and son Calvin Hodges. He leaves behind two sisters, Grancie Lou Hodges Beck from Oakland CA, Zella Mae Hodges McRae of Columbus Ohio,his sister-in-law, Juanita Hodges, and his loving wife of 28 years Sandra Carol Miller Hodges. ” Thank you for all we did together. You were everything to me. I will always love you.” He also leaves behind two sons, Maurice Hodges Grant and John Wesley Hodges III, step daughter, Suzette Shenay Allen Cox, daughter in law Nina Grant, 9 grandchildren, Mashawn Grant, Zanleya Grant, Zahvea Grant, Kylie Grant, Kameron Grant, Cardell Thurman Hodges, Jr., Semaj Onia Allen, Jeremiah Cox,DeShenay LaKeshia Allen,DeOndre Lamont Allen and one great grandchild Carlaysia Thurman Hodges; Sister-in-Law, Juanita Hodges and a number of loving and very caring nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his family he leaves behind a lot of caring friends and his brothers and sisters from Newnan Church of Christ for the last 23 years.
