John Wayne Brown, Sr. was born on August 18, 1953 to Sylvester and Eloise Brown in Oxford, Mississippi. He moved to East St. Louis, Illinois in 1956, then made Indianapolis, Indiana his home in 1977.
On June 7, 1964, at the age of 10 John accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized at the age of 12 at Hopewell Baptist Church, where he was a participant in the 4H Club and the Young People’s Choir. In 1994 John became a member of Calvary Temple, where he served the Lord for 14 years.
John attended Lincoln High School in East St. Louis. On July 6, 1984 John married the love of his life, Betty Jean Brown. John and Betty shared 36 wonderful years together.
John worked in environmental services at the Brightwood Branch of the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library for many years, a job he truly loved. John was a loving husband and father with a caring heart who extended love and kindness beyond words to others. Although his work on earth is finished, he will be remembered as a sweet and kind man. He will be truly missed.
John leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Betty Jean Brown; son, John Wayne Brown, Jr.; daughters, Turquoise Chanel Brown, Cieara Eloise Jake; stepson, Derrick Dion Dozier, Sr.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry Brown, Janice Slack (Fred); Homer Brown, Sr. (Cynthia); Linda Porter (Keven, Sr.), Sue Brown and a host of other relatives and friends.
