John was a 2nd generation native born in Denver, CO to John W Smith, Jr and Mary Victoria Gallegos Smith.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Kay Wright Smith, daughter Jana (Dean) Smith-Carr, grandson Scott Carr, Sisters Anita Zimmerman of Centennial, CO and Vikki (Nate) Faudel of Highlands Ranch, CO, and brother Karl (Susene) Smith of Wheatland, WY. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Jeanne Smith, in 1998.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews:  Lisa, David, Nathan and Aaron Fraser, Joe and Clark Zimmerman, Kristen, Jason, Sophia, Jonas and Quinn Huddleston, Benjamin John Smith, and Samantha and Jackie Hawkins.  He had a large family in Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, California, Indiana, New York and Arizona who loved him dearly.

 

John graduated from Mullen High School, Metropolitan State College and University of Denver Law School.  He practiced municipal law for 45 years, was an Associate Judge in Englewood Municipal Court, and served on the Englewood Board of Adjustments for many years.

 

John loved his family, his Hispanic heritage, traveling, golf, football and was an ever loyal Bronco fan.  He was ever in the pursuit of the best tamale and green chili wherever he went.
