John W. Hinde, 89, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday, January 26, 2014, at his residence.
He was born June 19, 1924 in Independence, MO, the son of Edgar G. and Anna Ford Hinde. He married Helen Patterson on December 9, 1950 at Smith House on the Illinois College campus in Jacksonville and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2012.
He is survived by a son, John P. Hinde of Kirkwood, MO; a nephew, Edgar G. Hinde III of Pittsburg, KS; and a niece, Constance Leon of, Sunset, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edgar G. Hinde Jr. (surviving wife, Doris of Pittsburg, KS).
Mr. Hinde was a graduate of the University of Kansas and served with the US Army during WW II and the Korean Conflict. They relocated to Jacksonville where John served as the business manager for Herrin Advertising and later as a loan officer for Elliott State Bank. He also served as the director of development for Passavant Area Hospital for a few years prior to his retirement.
John was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville where he formerly served as a deacon and elder. He was a long-time member and past president of the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club and held memberships in The Club and Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library. He formerly served on the board of directors for Elm City Center. He enjoyed playing tennis with friends and working to rejuvenate the forest on his family’s farm in rural Jacksonville.
