John W. Barber Jr., 79, Anderson, died August 16, 2005 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson Indiana after a sudden illness.
He was born June 3, 1926 in Anderson, Indiana, and was a lifelong Anderson resident. He was the owner and Chairman of the Board of Barber Manufacturing Company, Inc. He was a 1944 graduate of Anderson High School and a 1949 graduate of Duke University. He was a member of Anderson Rotary and Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served on many boards, including St. John’s Health System, Anderson Banking Company, Merchants National Bank, National City Bank, Wilson’s Boys & Girls Club and Anderson Country Club.
He coached many sports teams over the years. He is survived by his wife whom he married October 25, 1952: Ann Bireley Barber. Four Children: Jeffrey W. & wife Susan Barber of Anderson. James R. & wife Claire Barber of Anderson. Thomas D. Barber of Anderson. Elizabeth Barber Lackey & husband Blake Lackey of Fishers. Sister: Martha B. Lowrance of Charlottesville, Virginia. Niece: Laura Lowrance. Seven Grandchildren: Andrew Barber, Jack Barber, Molly Barber, Jay Barber, Olivia Lackey, Meredith Lackey and Laura Lackey.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John W. Barber Sr. & Martha Diven Barber.
