John W. Backert, Sr., 89, a 51 year resident of Glen Burnie, passed away at his home on November 8, 2011. John was born on October 1, 1922 in Baltimore, MD. He was employed with BG&E for 35 years, retiring in 1976 as a boiler maker. John was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd and enjoyed playing cards, yard work and coin and stamp collecting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda, of over 50 years. He is survived by his two sons, John W. Backert, Jr. and Timothy Backert; daughter-in-law, Joy Backert; grandchildren, John W. Backert, III and Michele Andrew; and great-granddaughter, Lily Andrew.
