John Thomas Garner, 62
Okeechobee – John Thomas Garner died July 20, 2021. He was born June 6, 1959, in Greensboro, North Carolina to Carl and Doris Ann (Bettini) Garner. A resident of Okeechobee for 16 years, he served as an Elder and Preaching Pastor at More 2 Life Ministries for 13 years prior to serving at Oakview Baptist Church as Senior Pastor and a member of the Ministerial Association. He was an avid reader, enjoyed shooting sports, theatre, and loved to talk about Jesus and mentor young men. He will be remembered as a beautiful vocalist as well. He was a loving man, a great friend, and a wonderful husband.
Pastor Garner is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laurinda “Laurie” Garner, of Okeechobee; sons, Matthew K. Garner, of Okeechobee, and Seth A. Garner (Cait), of Jacksonville; daughter, Michaela L. (Garner) Prevatt (John M.), of Okeechobee; parents, Carl and Doris Ann (Bettini) Garner; five grandchildren, Isaac, Gwendolyn, Lillian, Everett, and Ella; brothers, James T. Garner (Robyn), of Okeechobee, and Andrew K. Garner, of Greensboro, North Carolina; and sister, Joy Garner Whitt (Philip), of Greensboro, North Carolina.
